After the great series against New Zealand, India will playing three test matches against sri Lanka. Indian team is yet to lose a test series under Virat Kohli’s captaincy and will be looking for another series win.
India will be looking to kick-start their home season in a great way. The test series against Sri Lanka will start from November 16 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The second test is scheduled on 24th November and final test will be played on December 2.
Here we are listing the possible line up for India in the first test of the series
1. KL Rahul
Rahul made his international debut against Australia in the 2014–15 Test series at Melbourne. In his second Test match at Sydney, he scored 110, his maiden Test century. He became the first Indian to score a century on One Day International debut, scoring 100* against Zimbabwe in 2016 at Harare Sports Club.He is only the third Indian batsman to score a century in all the three formats of International cricket. He is also the second fastest batsman to score century in Twenty20, and fastest Indian in all the formats, to score a century (100 for 46 balls),scoring 110* for 51 balls against West Indies on 27 August 2016 which is the highest score by an Indian in T20 international.Rahul is the only batsman to reach the score of 100 with a boundary on his maiden centuries in all the three formats of international cricket.
2. Murali Vijay
The test specialist batsman is all set make a comeback and to bat along with KL Rahul. In his absence, Shikhar Dhawan had done exceedingly well in Sri Lanka. He scored 9 test centuries and will be looking increase it in the Sri Lanka series. Vijay made his Test debut against Australia in the Fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in Nagpur, in November 2008. He was selected for the match after Gautam Gambhir received a one-Test ban for elbowing Shane Watson in the Third Test of the same series in Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.Vijay was participating in a Ranji trophy match at the time, and made his Test debut on the final day of that match.Of Vijay’s technique, former Australian captain Allan Border said “His defensive shots are so assured. And he looks comfortable of both front and back foot. And when he attacks, he doesn’t go hard at the deliveries. I can see why this young man is playing”.
3. Cheteshwar Pujara
The Rahul Dravid of this Generation has recently scored 2 hundred in the last two Ranji trophy games. He was India’s highest run scorer in the previous home season. In February 2017, during the one-off Test match against Bangladesh, he set a new record for the most runs by a batsman in an Indian first-class season, with 1,605 runs. The previous record was 1,604 runs set by Chandu Borde in 1964–65.In November 2017, he scored his twelfth double-century in first-class cricket, the most by an Indian batsman, breaking the previous record set by Vijay Merchant.
4. Virat Kohli (C)
The king of ODI and T20I format had a worst test series at home in the Border-Gavaskar series. The World’s best batsman will be looking forward to shut the mouth of his haters with his performance. when it comes to captaincy, India is yet to lose a series under his captaincy. Already India has 19 tests win under Virat Kohli and he is just two victories away from Sourav Ganguly’s 21 win record. We hope, he will break Ganguly’s record in this series itself.
5. Ajinkya Rahane
The champion batsman did not have a best outings in Ranji Trophy, he was dismissed for a duck twice in his last 4 innings. But Indian team will always have a trust on this dependable batsman. On 25 March 2017, Rahane became India’s 33rd Test Captain when he led the team in the 4th test against Australia in Dharamsala due to an injury to Virat Kohli.He scored 46 runs in his first innings and quick 37 Runs in 2nd innings as India’s Test captain.
6. Rohit Sharma
With Hardik Pandya rested, Rohit Sharma is looking primed to return to the Test team. He has scored fifties in all the match against New zEaland last year and the most talented Indian batsman will be looking to make a comeback to the longest format of the game after a huge gap. He missed the home season due to thigh injury during the ODI series against New Zealand.
7. Wriddhiman Saha
The replacement of MS Dhoni in test cricket has done well for India since Dhoni’s retirement. In 2017, Saha became the first Indian wicket-keeper to score centuries in home as well as outside Asia.Wriddhiman Saha is India’s fourth-highest run-scorer this home season. Most recently, Saha’s third hundred came at a very crucial juncture in the match; Australia had scored 451 batting first and India were six wickets down still 123 runs in deficit. Saha combined with Pujara; the pair added 199 runs and not only took India past Australia’s first innings score, but well beyond. Saha, The Keeper Saha has played 23 Tests as India’s designated wicket-keeper, and his numbers on the batting front compare favourably to some of India’s previous wicket-keepers. In terms of runs, only Farokh Engineer (who also opened the innings), MS Dhoni and Nayan Mongia had scored more.
8. Ravichandran Ashwin
The most valuable Indian test player will be returning to the Indian team for the first time since the Test series against Sri Lanka in August.The magician needs eight more wickets in the series to become the quickest to 300 Test wickets. ICC test cricketer of the year 2016, ICC cricketer of the year 2016 (he became the only Indian after Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar to win the ICC Cricketer of the Year award)
9. Ravindra Jadeja
Team India may ignore Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the shorter format of the game but they can never drop them in the longest format of the game. After Ashwi, Jadeja is the most valuable Indian test player at the moment. He featured in all four tests against the visiting Australian side.He bagged 25 wickets as well as made two handy half centuries down the order which earned him the player of the match as well as player of the series award in the latest concluded series on 28 March 2017.He is currently sitting on the top on charts in the list of best Test bowlers.
10. Mohammed Shami
One of the best fast bowlers of India will be trying to trouble the Sri Lankan batsmen in the upcoming test series. The last time time India had played a test at the Eden Gardens against New Zealand in 2016, his swing deliveries have troubled the kiwis as he picked 3 wickets in each innings to hep India to beat Kiwis by 178 runs.
